BYU
We took Tyler to BYU on August 4th & 5th, hoping he would find a good job while attending college. All day Thursday, he filled out applications. At first, we went to the employment center, but after talking to Kevin & Ryan, we started going to the places Tyler was interested in working and he had a few interviews.. One of the jobs told Tyler he had to take the safety/driving class, which was scheduled for Friday afternoon. As soon as he was done with the course, he took the safety certificate to two different jobs that he was interested in. After about 15 minutes, Guest Services (driving special guests around BYU, setting up and taking down tables & chairs, taking tickets at some events, Lost & Found) called him and offered him a job, which he accepted. About 10 minutes after that, BYU vehicle rental (washing, vacuuming & waxing cars) called to offer him a job, also. We decided that he needed to pray about the decision and let them know later. On the following Monday, he called Guest Services and let them know he had accepted a different job. He received calls from all of the places he had submitted applications wanting to set up an interview with him. We have decided that a good time to get a job at BYU is before all of the students start to arrive. We took him back to Provo on August 13th, where he started working at vehicle rentals on the 15th and is enjoying his job. He is living with Grandma Stokes for the week and will move into his apartment on Sunday. Education week is this week on BYU campus. At the beginning of the week, Tyler said that he has never seen so many confused adults all in one place. :-) We miss Tyler. At the same time, we are so excited for him.

Elk
A family in our ward bought 5 elk to add to their many different animals & birds (pheasants, pigeons, ducks, swans, peacocks, emu, chickens) that they own. Our children had fun feeding the elk, which was a bit strange, considering they are wild animals. They had to get special permits and get their cage inspected before they were allowed to buy them.

Rodeo
As a family (minus Tyler, who was at work), we went to the Western Heritage Days & Ranch Rodeo in Gooding. This is a rodeo where men who work on a ranch participate, not the professionals. The Range Race was my favorite. This is a race where the men stand behind a line, minus their boots and sitting on their saddle. After the start, they put their boots on, pick up their saddle and run to the end of the arena, where they saddle their horse and ride the horse to the other end of the arena. The race was pretty exciting because 3 cowboys were bucked from their horses. No one was hurt.

Here is a video (just click on the link) of one of the cowboys in the Ranch Bronc Riding. Exciting!
