Elk
A family in our ward bought 5 elk to add to their many different animals & birds (pheasants, pigeons, ducks, swans, peacocks, emu, chickens) that they own. Our children had fun feeding the elk, which was a bit strange, considering they are wild animals. They had to get special permits and get their cage inspected before they were allowed to buy them.

Rodeo
As a family (minus Tyler, who was at work), we went to the Western Heritage Days & Ranch Rodeo in Gooding. This is a rodeo where men who work on a ranch participate, not the professionals. The Range Race was my favorite. This is a race where the men stand behind a line, minus their boots and sitting on their saddle. After the start, they put their boots on, pick up their saddle and run to the end of the arena, where they saddle their horse and ride the horse to the other end of the arena. The race was pretty exciting because 3 cowboys were bucked from their horses. No one was hurt.

Here is a video (just click on the link) of one of the cowboys in the Ranch Bronc Riding. Exciting!

Duct tape boat
For his final project in Physics, Tyler had to build a boat made from cardboard, plastic wrap & duct tape. After the boat was complete, the people in the class were able to race their boats at a local swimming pool. Tyler & Carlos worked many hours building, wrapping & taping their boat. There were 10 boats that raced. Tyler & Carlos were in the 1st heat to race and finished before the other 3 boats had made it half way across the pool. After everyone had raced their boats, the winners of the other boat races raced. Tyler and Carlos came in 1st overall. My favorite part was when the canoe that Texas & Kade built---sank. So funny!

Here is a video of Tyler's 1st race:

Graduation
Hard to believe that Tyler has graduated from High School. There were 6 Valedictorians and Tyler was the Salutatorian. There were 70 people in his graduating class. After our vacations to Nauvoo and Arizona, Tyler will be working a construction job and then heading to BYU in the fall. He is so excited!

Tyler received the only scholarship he applied for (American Legion Scholarship---$500). He also received a surprise scholarship of $250 for the Trent Davis Memorial Scholarship. Trent died about 5 or so years ago when a drunk driver ran a stop sign. He had 2 boys in High School at the time. This scholarship is for 1 well-rounded individual in sports, academics and overall good person. This was very touching for Tyler to receive such a special scholarship. Lon also received the Trent Davis Memorial Community Member Award for all of his volunteer service at the schools and in the community.

Every senior wears a stole to give to someone who has helped them on their path to graduation and influenced their life. Tyler gave me his stole. I am very proud of Tyler and the man he is becoming.

Lost teeth
Justin, Brianna & Lindsey followed me outside on a Sunday evening while I was visiting with Aunt Lori. They were jumping over a rug on the trampoline (not normally a Sunday activity) when Justin jumped too far over the rug, his mouth landing on the frame. Next, we had a lot of blood, crying and one very sad, in pain boy. He wouldn't let us look into his mouth so we didn't know until the following morning that he had knocked out 2 teeth (not sure where the other tooth ended up). The top, left front tooth was barely hanging on. So after Tyler got home from school and after him crying most of the morning, I basically touched the tooth and it came out. We are hoping he didn't damage his permanent teeth. Justin told us that he was not going to jump on the trampoline ever again. He was on the trampoline having fun the very next day.

Sad, in pain boy
